Gateway to Past Horrors

This solemn photograph is of the entrance to what was once the magnificent chateau at Plessier de Roye, Picardie, France, before it was devastated in heavy fighting in 1918. As mentioned below in the post on the excellent book by J.S. Cartier ; France still abounds with visible traces of the 1914 to 1918 conflict even now, nearly 100 years later.
