Return to Avignon . . .

In the vast and wide cosmos of the blogoverse, it is rare to stumble on a blog which remains day in and day out so consistently and thoroughly thought provoking in an un-pretentious, yet engaging manner as Avignon in Photos, presented by its charming hostess Nathalie. Every day we are treated to a variety of subjects which she shares with us, the fruits of her patient and observant strolls through that magical city which graces the lower reaches of the Rhone River the way an emerald might grace the navel of an Arabian dancer. In humble homage to Avignon in Photos, I submit these two photos done on a trip I took to Avignon in 2007. The second strange graffiti piece was on a wall in the Parking des Italiens. . .

Avignon Re-Visited . . .

The four photos here were taken in Avignon in July, 2007, when there was a theater festival going on and posters were up all over town for the many different shows in progress. I'm not sure if the "No Dogs" and the "No Parking" in the first image were part of the theater festival or not. . . The second image says : "What is a French speaking Belgian ?" The answer I suppose is in the composite animal shown there. . . a confused individual ! I liked the third one because we call our daughter "Lulu".

Avignon !

Avignon down in the far south of France is truly a beautiful city, full of surprises in every street it seemed. This building was a literal epiphany of cherubs and angels, under a deep blue July sky . . .

Avignon In Photos . . .

And while taking note of other worthwhile and well conceived blogs out there, I'd like to render homage to Nathalie's Avignon In Photos blog, which is full of fun and surprises ; as well as some great photos from Avignon, France. If you take a quick look at her blog you will see that for the first day of April, known in some places as April Fool's Day, Nathalie posted a splendid view of the new beach along the Rhone River in Avignon. What a project that must have been to haul all that sand in there. Just need some bathing beauties to spice it up a little now.
.
However, just one question for Nathalie : In this first photo below here (not a great photo, sorry!) you can see the view along the Pont d'Avignon to the far side of the river where the beach is now. . . so the question is, what on Earth did they do with all the trees that were there ? ? ? Couldn't they have left a few for shade ?!? :-) . . . and if you believe all that, well, how would you like to buy the bridge in Avignon ?
.
The following photos show the interesting view along the bridge in the other direction back to the Pope's Palace, and then two pieces of modern art that adorned the walls at the parking lot where we left our car just outside the Avignon city walls. . .
