One might expect to find signs to photograph that have been blown to bits by shotgun blasts out in the far West or the deep South of the United States, where gun ownership and use is rampant, but frankly I was surprised when I stumbled on this sign one day out in the countryside near where I live in Picardie, France. And moreover, the cherry on the cake was that the sign was from the Ministry of Culture and Communication. . . so, if blasting up signs at historic Roman ruin sites is any gauge of the level of culture in these parts, or an indication of how people communicate around here, well, a French expression comes to mind, which is : "Courage, fuyons !" Which translated roughly means : "Give up, run away as fast as you can !". . . implying that some things are not worth trying to change.
.
Yes, for the people that do this sort of damage, there is another expression that comes to mind which is : You should never try to teach a pig to sing, because it wastes your time, and it annoys the pig. And please, just don't tell anyone like that about this blog, otherwise they will be after me next, just like certain people are still trying to track down Salman Rushdie to do him harm for having expressed his views in a novel.
