Roland Cat is a French artist who has painted some of the loveliest and most haunting paintings I've ever seen anywhere, bar none. I stumbled on his work in a 6th Arrondissement gallery in Paris a long time ago, and although I couldn't afford to purchase, as much as I would have loved to, any of his paintings at the time, I did buy a book with illustrations of his work. . . of which this kangaroo is one. Combining current events with fine arts is part of what this blog is about, and given the tragic events that have transpired in Australia in recent days, this image seems somehow perfectly appropriate to offer in memoriam. The human toll was terrible, and no doubt the animal and arboreal toll was also horrendous.

If you happen to visit this page . . . please observe a moment of silence to meditate upon the horror of it.
.
In the introduction to the book of Roland Cat's work, François Nourissier wrote : "A visionary painter is a painter able to make a visionary out of anyone who is looking at his painting."
