This grinning death's head which may appeal to any Grateful Dead fans in the audience is a detail from a rather extraordinary sculpted tree, of which nearly the entire surface of the trunk and the larger branches has been carved into an incredible collection of artwork. Stumbled on this fine example of outsider art in a village near an exit off the A75 highway between Milau and Clermont Ferrand when driving back from Nimes a couple of summers ago. . . am wondering why one eye socket is hollow while the other has an eye . . .

Good set here!
If it's not an outsider environment, it quite sure is outsider art. Where is this located and any idea who made this?
I can hear this carved tree guy snickering all the way from here. He reminds me of that character in Lord of the Rings....oh darn, what was his name?
As I was looking at the 2nd pic, I was trying to locate that grinning dead head. BTW...I think you meant "Death has No Mercy? Yes? Or did you in fact mean Death does not have no mercy? Which is 2 negatives, which means...Death has mercy.
Amazing talent this artist has in tree carving.
