This may be one of the loneliest looking old dogs I ever saw anywhere, and I had to go all the way to the Canary Island of Tenerife to track him down and take his picture, and pat him for a while to let him know that someone still liked him. A gentleman named John Prine wrote a song which Joan Baez covered on her album "Diamonds and Rust", with lines in it that go something like this :

And spot some hollow ancient eyes
