Museum of the Absurd !

Two earlier posts below focused on the Museum of the Absurd (Le Petit Musée de l'Insolite) near Cahors, France, and its curator, the inestimably creative Bertrand Chenu. (See "Tanned Car" and "Wisdom Tooth") This remarkable museum may be one of the best kept secrets in France, and is certainly worth making a detour to Cahors the next time you're on vacation in Europe. It is chock full of some of the most astonishing artistic creations I've ever had the good fortune to stumble on. Bertrand Chenu is a sculptor, a painter, a welder, a woodworker, a scavenger of junkyards, and a genius on the level of Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, or Marcel Duchamp. Here is the sign that greets visitors :

I did this portrait of Bertrand on a trip to Cahors in July, 1999 :

This is just one example of the wonderful creations to be found in the Museum of the Absurd ; a motorbike equipped with a helicopter rotor blade to take to the air with, and on the wide front end a mobile distillery so as to have constant and fresh supply of liquid refreshment while travelling. . . what more could one want out of life ? ! ? So again, don't miss the Museum of the Absurd on your next trip to France !
