Heart of Stone . . .

From a strictly aesthetic point of view, many old stone buildings in France just astound me. The incredible labor of love that went into cutting every last stone to a perfect fit in flowing forms and stark strength is hard to imagine today in our industrial age with the cold steel souls of modern architecture. Life was no doubt not perfect back when structures like the below were conceived and constructed, but I often dream of slipping through the trees in this first photo and walking into a world far removed from ours, a world where wars and hatred and fear had never been known. . . I know, I'm a dreamer. . .
