A Walk Through Hip City Art . . .

Over the past few weeks I've been appreciating more and more with each successive post a blog by a gentleman in England whose screen name is "SP". His photo blog Art of the City is full of surprisingly excellent photography, and I just realized a few days ago that he is keeping a second blog, Hip Walk, where he presents commentary about a wide range of artists or culturally pertinent phenomena. One of the articles in Hip Walk is about Wim Wenders, and notes that Wenders was not only a great film director, but he also did alot of photography. SP showed this photograph by Wim Wenders (which you can also see on Wim Wenders website) taken in the lounge of a hotel in Gila Bend, Arizona :

Given I'd just seen SP's blog post with the above Wim Wenders photo in it a couple of days ago with a bright red Coke machine in it, I suppose I was pre-disposed to notice at the jumble sale we went to yesterday these old Coca Cola advertising images on a table full of old poster images. . . I like the note across the bottom which says "Almost everyone appreciates the best". When it comes to photos by Wim Wenders, or to blogs by "SP", that is certainly true. . .

We used to have a vintage, bright red, Coca-Cola cooler...probably from the '50s. It had belonged to Pierre's parents when he was a kid. It had these metal pop-up fasteners on the side that were hard to open. They were, however, no deterrent for the midnight marauding raccoons!

Beth, hip walking is the best way to walk, right ? :-D

Lynne, I think the last time I saw a cooler like that was in a backwater place called Drummond Island, Michigan, it was in the junkyard there, and I should have taken it home with me, but it was heavy... and full of raccoon feces... so I left it there, to my eternal regret. But goodness, one can't bring home everything one sees and falls in love with... I've already got too many wrecks of cars in my back yard... LOL (just kidding!)

I'm so glad you liked the posts, really means a lot that people are catching on to things like this and I really can't recommend Wenders' Pictures from the Surface of the Earth enough.
Strangely, I did take a shot of a vintage Coke machine in New York fleamarket a few weeks ago but didn't make the association...
