A Trip to the Loo . . .

As has been mentioned by a few other bloggers (you know who you are !) ; toilet facilities in France, if existent at all, are sometimes rather primitive. Take this precariously perched outhouse (or "dunny" in some parts of the world) on a stone wall which in fact formed the river bank there, so anything excreted while seated would fall straight into the water. . . I wouldn't want to live downstream from this place ! Doesn't that just make your day ?!? You wouldn't want to tip over in this one, you might drown, or at least go for an unplanned punting trip down the river !

I'm thinking that after a particularly hot curry a bit of extra ventilation might be just the job...

This reminds me of an incident on my high school trip to France. We'd been dragged out to the middle of nowhere to look at some medieval battlefield, where some unfortunate person had to the job of explaining what happened to a group of seriously unimpressed teenage girls. On the way back most people were desperate for the loo, so we stopped at some public conveniences. The first group of girls came out after only a few seconds, looking shocked and unsure whether to cry or be sick. Everyone decided to hold it until we got back to the civlization of our hotel.
Now, Chinese toilets...

I would particularly hate to have to climb down and use the "facilities" in the middle of the night.

You would certainly have to make sure you REALLY did need to go...looks like an awful amount of effort if flatulance was the only culprit!

oh my....This is quite the engineering feat. It sure looks a little precarious for anyone weighing over saaaay....60 lbs.

Can you imagine getting in and then actually squatting ( I have never sat down in one), pants around ankles...and have the contraption flip over into the river...and with the plethora of folks w/ cellphones these days....the inevitable youtube video....

The only good thing here is that the excrement is not sitting just a foot below you in it's menacing way.

Leave it to you Zoom to find such a dunny...kinda like that word...better than outhouse.

p.s. Where's the EPA?

On devait appeler plus souvent le charpentier que le plombier !

Ça me rappelle le Château où les toilettes avaient accès direct à l'estran … Ah, le souvenir de la vague vicieuse lors des tempêtes de vives eaux !
