Seraphine !

Have any of you seen the fairly recently released movie about Seraphine de Senlis ? The Frog and Mr Toad saw the movie just a few weeks ago, and then we went into Paris, (the City of Light ... not the City of Blight), to see the exposition at the Musée Maillol, which I just learned has been extended until the 18th of May. Seraphine de Senlis was an obscure artist, I'd never heard of her before the movie came out (or maybe I'm the one who is too obscure) who did quite a number of astonishingly good paintings, given she had no formal art training, worked as a domestic servant for most of her life, and descended into madness, finishing her years in an asylum. Reminded me of Camille Claudel. So jump in your Lear Jets, hop on the Eurostar, saddle your mule, and head on in to Paris to see the exposition of her paintings while you still can . . . here is one example to whet your appetite . . .

OMG-it's alive!

Both fruity and visceral and oddly redolent of stain glass windows... an unusual mix to be sure but intriguing.

Glad you all enjoyed this, I'll try to post some more soon... the Museum people were very nice about letting me do photos, as long as no flash was involved...
