Being on vacation is great. That is another positive aspect of life in France, they don't skimp on vacation time... gotta love that. Got up early on the morning of New Years Eve, so early that I actually saw the sunrise for the first time in ages; given that I usually work nights, it is a rare event for me to be up when the sun is coming up. And this is what I've obviously been missing... the sky was on fire.
.
Despit the bitter cold I bundled up and headed over to go take a closer look at the town of Roscoff. These brightly colored but rusting drums were near the fresh fish market... fortunately there still seem to be some fish to be found, as business was thriving.
This window was in the chapel in front of the Roscoff church, hundreds of years old. The glass seemed thick and coarse quality, and clearly something strange had happened to the square pane at lower right, but I would not be able to guess what might have been the cause...
.
This World War Two era tank was parked along a roadside on the way into Roscoff... I'm not sure yet whether there was actually any fighting around there, or if this was just a souvenir someone hauled back from where it had been disabled during the war. Apart from missing treads, it seemed remarkably well preserved.
This door was on the in the churchyard, looks like it has been around for a while...

On an old house near the center of town I noticed these garlic cloves attached fairly high up the side of a wall. I was wondering if they have a problem with vampires around here, or what ?
.
On the front of the same house, there was a bunch of onions hung up at the same height as the garlic. Reminded me of that old story that said when the devil left the Garden of Eden garlic sprung up where his left foot had walked, and onions where his right foot had stepped. Odd story... superstition remains a powerful force.

The sunrise photo is spectacular! And that tank. . . odd, the things you happen across in your wanderings. Can you tell us more about vacation time in France? It sounds nice!
