Way out in the Syrian Desert lies the oasis at Palmyra, which became one of the farthest outposts of the Roman Empire. While poking around the outskirts of Palmyra, away from the famous ruins, came upon this colorful old pickup, which I supposed hadn't gone anywhere in recent times, given the way it was perched up on a pile of stones and missing window glass. Would have loved to have been able to jump in, plug some Deep Purple (Highway Star) into the cassette deck, and taken it for a spin in the desert, following signs like the one below to the border with Iraq, carrying messages of peace and harmony to the troubled people in the region... yeah, right... wishful thinking...
