Random Light ? You Decide...

.

.
If you have been reading this blog for any length of time you know there is no religious orientation presented here whatsoever, nor is there any leaning toward paranormal or otherworldly experiences. This page has never been about anything other than presenting photographs I've made over the years, in my own simple way, with plain words.
.
A month ago, at the end of January, I had the pleasure of spending a cold, windy afternoon in Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris in the good company of Mary G., Virginia J., Peter O., and la Grenouille, with no other purpose than to stroll and take some cemetery photographs, as we all enjoy doing. It was Mary who suggested I take a look at the tomb of the well known French glass artist Rene Lalique, as there was an interesting sculpted glass crucifixion scene to see on it. Here is a front view:

This second image is actually the first photo I shot that day of the glass crucifixion scene shown above. I was trying to catch a reflection on the surface of the glass, as reflection photos are another of my interests. When I got home that night I thought this image was rather unusual. What do you think ? What do you see in this photo ? Is what you see here the result of a random of play of light in the glass ? If not, than what do you think of this and what might explain it ? I would really like to hear your opinion.

Mary G. even took a photo of me taking a photo of Lalique's tomb that afternoon... and very kindly sent it along to me after she got back home to the States... Thanks Again Mary !

Well that's not quite enough to pick you out in a crowd but it's exactly the same position I've been in when I take my cemetery shots.

Is that a Canon?

As for the photos themselves, they seem to similtaneously vibrate with life while at the same time they are pitted and eroding due to exposure to the real world.

Owen, you should ask the care takers of the cemetery to tell you the story about the "trompe l'oeil" or whatever illusion is created (lamb head). They might know or guide you to some literature. I am still amazed that the woman you saw at the museum had no clue. Either that or it is so well known that she was pulling your leg.
To be continued...

The human brain is preprogrammed to look for faces and that is what my brain is searching for in the reflection.

so good to see you again photographing!!! :-)

i see nothing there except a play of light, as you also suggest - but again, i am a very skeptical person myself, so i am not the best person to ask about such things...

(what i am not skeptical about, is how interesting these photos are :-)

Hi Kevin, yeah, one has to be a bit gymnast to make photos... getting the right angle. It is indeed a Canon, got my first Canon back in 1979, and never got around to trying out the competition...

Bonjour Nadege, honestly I don't know if the Pere Lachaise administrators would be able to help... I think I may let this lay for a while... it doesn't seem to be of interest to anyone...

Hi Roxana, haven't slowed down at all on making photos, have just been spending more time building the photo page over on Facebook... am able to reach more people there apparently... but will be back in here from time to time I guess... hope all is good with you...

Hi Owen,

I find this really interesting. I don't think it's supernatural but it is really cool. The more I look the more strange faces I see. I had to check this out for myself so I went and took a few shots of it yesterday. In mine you can see the number 19 on His neck and upper chest.

James... what, are you in Paris ??? When are you here until, if you are ? I've been off work this past week, but gotta get back to work this week...

I guess you didn't get my emails?
Yes, I'm in Paris and I tried to set up a meeting with you. :-(

Let me know if you have any free time Tomorrow,Thursday or Friday.

I'd love to see you again but I understand if work gets in the way. :-)

it almost looks as if another image is superimposed on top of it, withe the vertical dark bars to the left. also if you look closely at the top it looks like a hand is hovering above Christ's head.

this, of course, from a fallen Catholic!

I am not going to read comments before mine so I am not swayed.....

I see the torso struck by what looks like an inner light. But what really was surprising to me is that I see Superman's big-S logo right above the head! Did you see it too, I wonder...

Going to post and then read other comments. I've missed your blog, Owen, and will try to be here more often than I have lately.

Very interesting! At a minimum, this is certainly a work of art. Nice find and photos!

How have you been, Owen? Those are some interesting reflections indeed. I do see a face there but it could be almost anything you care to imagine. In fact, now I can even see a squirrel!

Like laLique, that makes sense :)

Now for the dual image, I see a lamb's head in the second photo. (I didn't say the holy lamb though). Can you see it too?

But if you look back at your first photo the shadow of another superimposed face was already there too. Weird I have to admit - and nice too!

Bon dimanche à toi

Well, I guess I'm not much of believer in any otherwordly matters, so I see just a surprising game of reflections. But that is already interesting enough! :-)

Owen,
I see the image of an angelic slug. Very mysterious indeed! Just so you know, I have not stopped drawing slug napkins, just need a new scanner. I have a stockpile you would be proud of!
BTW, Love these photos, you are truly gifted.
