Giving Thanks...

Here's giving thanks to all of you for your visits to these pages in 2011, and hoping for more fine blogging exchanges in warmth and levity and joy and poignancy throughout the year in 2012. It never ceases to amaze me that anyone ever found there way here at all, out of all the millions of blogs out there to visit on the internet.
.
This wall of plaques saying "Merci", or "Thanks", was in a cemetery on Reunion Island. Hope to return there one of these days, it was one of the most amazing places I've ever been.

Somos nosotros, sus lectores, los que debemos decirle gracias por su talento y erudicción.

Maria put it so nicely that I will just write the same message... en français. "Ce sont nous, tes lecteurs, qui devons te remercier pour ton talent et tout ce que tu nous apprends." ;-) Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment yesterday, Owen. I will research the photographers you listed. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

What an interesting photo and fascinating place! I wonder what the story is behind this as we don't see it elsewhere.

Oops! I misspelled the word "erudición" (cannot even write in my own language)

Owen=erudito

And to that cute lady from Seattle, thank you for translating and for your kind words.

That is such a work of art with the monochromatic squares interspersed with the few rosy hued ones. The hint of a shadow from a tree branch. A much less eloquent but equally heartfelt Thank You back at you!

Ah, you wonderful people !

What I was really wondering with this photo is why there were so many plaques which seem to have lost the "Merci" on them, as if someone had been stealing them, though why anyone would want to desecrate memorials like these is beyond me. Strange...

Sort of votives?
I'm quite interested in Reunion island. I would guess that some of the religious sentiment there has roots in African religions.
