Of Amphibians and Abbeys . . .

When la Grenouille discovered that Mr Toad had been plastering his portrait all over the internet in the post just below this one, she wanted to know why she hadn't been given equal screen time. And as we all know that hell hath no fury like an amphibian scorned, I thought I'd better rectify the omission immediately. And by strange coincidence, it just so happened that her sister was here visiting today, all the way from Beirut, and had these two images on her point and shoot Canon Ixus camera, which she kindly allowed me to copy here. So exceptionally, these two photos of la Grenouille were not taken by Mr Toad . . . but by his sister in law, or as they say in French, his "belle soeur" . . .
.
Also, all the greenery in these two shots couldn't help but remind me of all the astounding greenery that has been appearing recently on another blog which I love to visit, and have been doing so for nearly a year now. If you have a moment, please do go say "Hi" or "Bonjour" to Jeff at Life is Beautiful, and check out his visions of nature . . .

Now, to totally change gears, on another blog which I enjoy reading regularly, French Fancy just posted yesterday a brief piece about Abbey Road, and the fact that she had lived near the famous road crossing there pictured on the Beatles album of that title. Her mention of Abbey Road reminded me that I'd shot a picture not long ago which focused on that old and famous image, in a shop window, of a holographic reproduction of it . . .

Bravo, the Beatles bring back some wonderful memories. I was there at the start you know! Well I"m sure I didn't need to tell you that one! HA

The image of them with the reflection is just great! I'm smiling.

Well, it's obvious who has the looks in your family! Hopefully your girls have inherited their mother's beautiful complexion.

It's always such a pleasure to stop by Mr.Toad's Blog Clearing House and see what's on offer for the day or the week. Two blogs on offer in one go this time! I do love how you delight in spreading your bloggy joy.

Truly, your blog is ribetting.

That made me smile and thank you for the mention. I lived there from 1 day old to about 4.5, but had a few cousins in the area for most of my youth. It's hard to believe now how much of a townie I was - I love living in this peace and quiet; well, most of the time I do.

LOL @ Louciao and the "ribetting" post. :D Good one!

Thank you for the blog links -- Jeff's photos were wonderful and it was interesting about Abbey Road and the live crossing!

I also liked meeting la Grenouille. She is très jolie!

Be well,

Owen, I can see why you fell in love and stayed in France.

A bientôt Mr Owen...!

A plus...(8|

A toute à l'heure...

Rebonjour Mr Owen...

Sincères Amitiés...;)

That Beatles shot is so cool, down to the reflection of the street and the white triangular tabs on the corners echoing the white street lines on the original pic.

Beirut? That's someone who should be blogging! How many of us will ever see Beirut?

I never thought about it, but I guess there is great variety in Toadom.

Owen, I confess that I enjoy Jeff's comments almost as much as your posts. Almost. Not quite.
Les crapauds are the most delicious green. Fresh-faced frogs. Quite a nice change from old, worn things, although that must not be taken as a complaint.

Fabjous post, Mr Toady-brother! I haven't commented on the last post but (wasn't that a war tune?) have read it and digested it, warts and all.
I love those red plants by the way - I got married in red and red is a wonderful colour.
When we were kids we had a pet frog named Mr Toad of Stephens Hall....
I'm busy decorating our new pad, hence my lack of posts. Will hop to it this weekend, or I'll be lilly-livered!!!

Very cool images, Owen. Yours and your sister-in-law's, both. I come here to relax, sometimes. Did I ever tell you that? To just chill... Ouf! I'm on my way to work in a few... but I thought I'd stop in for a quick chill session. Thanks for that! Okay, I'm off now! Be back soon...

Virginia, I guess we were both there at the start, I can remember getting one of their earliest albums in the house, "Meet the Beatles", one of my brothers got it somewhere I guess... good times discovering each new album as they came out, they really were major figures in my early years...

Owen said...

Hey Lynne,... Mr Toad's Blog Clearing House, huh ? That's a good one, this place is sort of a bargain basement for oddities relegated to the back streets where the crowds don't go, and not about to get "discovered" anytime soon I guess... Well, maybe we could set up a blog post thrift shop in the old hotel that sister Saj found for us ??? Did you see it ??? But shucks, I didn't win the lottery again this week, so I guess I'll put that project on hold for now... and just keep on ribbeting along here, flicking the blog tongue at passing fruit flies... So are you out in Vancouver now ??? Be well...

Owen said...

Steve, one can always count on you to make the most amazingly astute observations... I'm sure frogs do indeed eat beetles at every opportunity, no wonder these were in such a hurry to cross the street and get wherever they were going...

Hi FF, ah, Peace & quiet versus the city hubub, sometimes one wants to be where one is not...

========

Hi Karin Alien in Paris... ah yes, that Lynne Louciao is something else again, she has quite a way with words that leaves me rapt... and la grenouille is indeed très jolie, in a froggy sort of way... I'm a lucky toad...
:-)

Dedene ! Ah yes, that wouldn't do if she were gluante, now would it ! Well, she might be just a little, I mean, I did sort of stick to her and couldn't get away, sort of like a fly gets stuck on flypaper...

Jeff ! Dr. Jeff !

A bientôt Dr. Jeff...

Hi Stickup ! yeah, and Lennon's white suit too with the white corners... As for my Sis in law, I wish she would start a blog, but she's busy down there in Beirut, it's not easy for people to find time to blog, but you're right, Beirut is sort of a mystery destination even today... I never thought I'd go there, after all the violence, especially toward Americans... but we had the chance to go for the wedding, and I was pretty leery at first, but finally it turned out to be a fascinating place, and I'd love to go back one of these days... with a better camera than I had the first time... there are a few shots from that trip back in the archives, you can find them by clicking on Lebanon or Syria in the labels list in the sidebar. Actually I've been meaning for some time to post some more shots from that trip, but I keep getting distracted... that's my problem, I'm very easily distracted...

Hi VickyCat, sure would love to hear the Ronald's version of Telegraph Road, that's one of my really favorite all time works of music. I first heard it in France when I was hitchhiking one summer around the country, and some girls from Germany picked me up in their car... had it on a cassette tape... blew me right away... never forgot them either... many thanks, for the "loverly", you sure have a way with words !!!

Hi TechnoB, Was very lucky to find those frog shots at just the right time....

Hey Alex, good to see you drop in, as I said over at your place, it's been a while... I've added your address to my list of blogs, and hopefully that will help me get by to Scotland more often... like that cartoon of a dog contemplating a very long line of fire hydrants stretching into the distance, and thinking, so many blogs, so little time...
:-)

Hi Deborah, ah, so you like these frogs and toads ??? Better than old broken down cars and ramshackle houses ? Ah, well, I'll keep trying to mix things up a bit, but a guy has to do what a guy has to do, too... Oh, and yes, that Jeff, his comments really rise above the horizon, like the sun in the morning, he always has something funny and insightful to say, an incredible mind at work there... Don't tell him I said that...
:-)
Oh, and PS, thank you ever so much for your other message !

Owen said...

Sister Saj... ah, so you're decorating our new hotel already??? Excellent ! So it's going to be all ready when Lynne and I turn up ??? Can't wait !

And see, even from early childhood you were getting prepared for the presence of a Toad in your life... best get out the Wind in the Willows to re-read a bit...

And you got married in red ? Just needed some of these flowers... guess there must be some pictures of that historic event ???

Take care, and remember, don't climb up on ladders after Tuesday tippling, or you may find yourself Tuesday tipping over with the paint can on your head for a hat...
:-)

Hey Nevine... now that is really cool... if you come here to chill, I'll turn up the airconditioning just a little... although here in this arctic white iceland of the comment box, it already feels like snowstorms and blizzards and polar bears and arctic fox... But in any case, you are welcome to chill out here anytime you like, for as long as you want, I'll put out some lounge chairs and iced tea, make yourself at home... and you can read me a poem or two... that's whats lacking in these blog boxes... the sound of a soft warm musical voice speaking these words... Bon weekend Nevine... chill bien...
