Heaven Sent . . .

If you are watching your weight, you may want to skip this one . . . I've been seeing quite a few posts around the blogs about Halloween, so I thought I'd toss in my two cents, even if Halloween isn't really celebrated much in France. Nearly all towns in this country have at least one bakery / patisserie, which I guess one would translate as pastry shop. Strolling by the window of this one in Albert the other day, I couldn't help notice the handwritten label saying "La Sorcière d'Halloween". . . the Halloween Witch, which witch was hiding in among the "Rouge Désir" (Red Desire), the Royals, the Melodies, and other assorted goodies which would put any diet in a shambles quickly. What I really liked here though were the little cupids holding the signs, as though these diabolically sweet concoctions were actually gifts from heaven . . . and as this is only a photo on a blog, I can only invite you to feast your eyes . . . sweet dreams everyone . . .

Bises,
K'line

Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday (I live in America) but with the looks of those yummy pastries, every day could be Halloween there...I think I just gained five pounds looking at that picture. :)

When my daughter and I went to Paris, we stayed at a lovely little hotel called Hôtel de Banville. It was right in between a patisserie and a cheese shop. Across the street was a fabulous restaurant and next door to it was a wine shop. Needless to say, it's a good thing we did a lot of walking... :-)

The food in France is really the best in the world!

Now I'm hungry...

Ciao Owen !
Bye !

Steve, just bring a bib... sounds like there's going to be some serious drooling happening !

=======

Bon appetit !

=======

K'line, pour toi, la lune...

Quoi ?

Bisoux...

Hi Kristi, I've heard of thought influencing hormonal activity, but gaining five pounds all at once !?! Wow, these must really look good ! Good thing the photo isn't really all that great and in better focus and all, otherwise you might have gained ten... I purposely kept it a little fuzzy...
:-)

Jo, your hotel sounds like a very, very dangerous place !!! France can be bad that way... hopefully Vancouver has a good French restaurant or two for when the cravings really get unbearable ?

:-)

Saj ! Put that banana down, that's not a pistol !

Patricia, enjoy, you can have as many as you want...

========

TechnoB, VERY decadent. I'm still a sucker for a simple chocolate éclair, or a coffee flavored éclair, just never seem to get tired of those...

========

@eloh, hhmmm, not sure how well these would travel in the mail... you may just have to head back over to France...

That's a far cry from a bag of Skittles and those little angelic card holders are just too cute.

I think when food becomes art, we appreciate it a lot more, like a gift that is too beautiful to unwrap or too unwrap in a frenzied manner.

Trick or Treat...

Hi Owen! What a perfectly charming window display! Despite the "Halloween Witch" sign, everything else seems to be pointing to Valentine's Day! Cupids, red hearts, cherries, and strawberries. Sort of a cross-reference, if you will!

Yum yum yum. I would like to sample at least three of these delicacies. Well, not sample. EAT!!!

We do not "do" halloween in Australia either.
Now, those cakes are a work of art- only the French can cook like that!

Nice find. I'll have a Sorcière d'Halloween please!

No Halloween in Egypt either.
About the cakes.
I could eat the strawberries - I don't have a sweet tooth but I have a tooth for good salami, ham, cheese etc. :-)
Have a great Tuesday afternoon!

Pastry shops that sell chocolates are one of the many joys of France. I agree with you about the little cupids. Too tempting, Owen!

If I was there, I'd have to try them all , wouldn't want anyone feeling left out. The look so squidgyly delicious.

Nathalie H.D. said...

Hi Stickup Artist, and there is no end of artfully prepared food in France which one may easily hesitate to desecrate by eating it... but then, after all, it was meant to be eaten finally... (he said with his mouth quite full, which is very impolite, but some temptations are too strong to resist...)

=======

Margaret, yeah, maybe they're starting to subconsciously start getting us warmed up for Valentines... or it could be that all the blood red colors here were meant to attract vampires for the witchs' Halloween festivities ?

=======

Nevine, ... only three ? You are showing great self-control, restraint, and moderation... I applaud you !
:-D

========

Robert, if you try eating a few of these for dessert, you may find yourself sleeping soundly through the entire night...?
:-)

========

Lynne ! I was wondering who left all that slobber all over the window that the shopkeeper had to clean up so I could take a picture... now I know ! It's better to go into the shop, pay three euros, and lick the real thing !
:-D
========

Lady Jicky, well, I'm not sure the French have a monopoly on great food, but they work hard at it...

========

Bonjour Bleeding Orange... well, I'm not sure there are any left, but if you hop on a train to Albert in the morning, you'll be able to see in the afternoon... but then, they must have something like this where you are, I would guess ? No need to take a train...
:-)
========

Greetings and Welcome Blogitse, well, I guess we can let you have the strawberries if that's your fancy... many thanks for dropping in here, always happy to see new company...

=========

Ah, Jilly, I sense that you also can be tempted on the odd occasion to sample the wares in such establishments of sin ??? Indeed, one of the major joys of France...
;-)

========

Dear London dwelling Cuban... very decadent indeed ! Debauched ! The iniquities of pastries ! Welcome aboard !

========

;-D

========

J, Now that's the spirit ! I'll be right there with you to make sure that none get missed !!!
:-)

========

A bientôt...

nooo

i am eating dark chocolate right now, what a coincidence - and yet craving for those, you cruel Owen!!!

:-)

Owen said...

Roxana, ahh, so now I better understand where some of your creative energy comes from...

Yes, yes, very cruel indeed when it comes to chocolate; speaking of which, there is a dessert called a marquise au chocolat, now that I think of it... maybe named after the Marquis de Sade's wife ?
