La Vie en Rose . . . Rose Colored Life . . .

A lady dressed in pink, hands clasped
Saying pink prayers these past hundred years
Pink prayers rusting on her lips
I could barely hear her
And could not make out the words
As hard as I tried . . . as hard as I tried . . .
.

The secret to hearing the whispered pink prayers is to look at the world through rose-tinted dreams and to dance down the sunset in rose-petaled shoes while sweetly devouring rich strawberry creams.

Owen said...

You forgot just one thing, perhaps, which would be to do all that while softly singing "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"...
;-D

I love that the prayers were rusting on her lips. Really beautiful, Owen.

I actually find that immense shade of pink disturbing. It's like a huge, grotesque childhood sweet...

You're right Steve - it looks like chewed-up bubblegum!

What a find, Owen! Never saw a statue this color, or anything close to this color, before this. Love your poem.

The pink is a bit shocking. What is she standing in front of?

Not many people would even hear a whisper of a prayer in front of this. But you do. You must be able to hear angels sing.

Dear Owen,
My local library had a volume of the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide...I am now at the part where Ford and Arthur are aboard the Starship Heart of Gold, and have met the severely depressed robot, Marvin...It's a bit of an Alice in Wonderland adventure, isn't it?...And now I know who the Vogons are that you were talking about in your post on the bogus poetry anthology...(That early blog was as quiet and deserted as a planet out in space! Glad you have all these great people commenting now - they have really drawn out the best in you :))

all she needs is some rose-tinted spectacles to make her pink world complete...great shot...which cemetery??

Is that some kind of goat head or something above the bubble-gum gal? Looks kind of evil to me...maybe if I had some pink champagne it would help me focus...

Thanks everybody ! I'll be back here just as soon as I can... another week in the margarita mixer at work (wow, those mixer blades are sharper than I thought)

This pink lady was on a cross in a cemetery quite a little way north of Paris... if anyone really wants to be taken to it to see her in the, err, pink flesh as it were, I could be induced to do private guided tours if the compensation in gem quality diamonds was adequate...
:-D

I've never seen anything that pink in a cemetery. How weird it is. It must look extra weird by the light of the full moon.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds?

Marie dans la rouille avec des restes de rose !

Mais où es-tu allé la dénicher, celle-là? Dans le cimetière pour chiens encore? Je ne vois pas comment on aurait osé ce rose autrement...

Yes Owen, we're both seeing the world through pink-coloured glasses this week :-)))

Your writing demands me to bow silently in respect of those words accompanied by the picture - chapeau !

I think for the first time I am a little lost.

I generally leave the picture taking to others...I'm no good at it. Maybe it's why I so love my photo blogs.

I know what I like, what "they" say to me...and that is it. I NEVER try to discect the photo itself.

I do not know why, but I thought this was about a filter and it's effect on this subject.

I'm just left wondering why is it pink.

La Dame en rose is saying the prayer of the ages: "May today be all you need it to be. May the peace of God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight, and conquer all your fears. May God manifest Himself today in ways you have never experienced. May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be closer, and your prayers be answered. I pray that faith enters a new height for you; I pray that your territory is enlarged. I pray for peace, healing, health, happiness, prosperity, joy, true and undying love for God." And it's truly beautiful that you found this ancient Dame en rose, Owen.

Owen said...

Oh my goodness, I'd just like to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts here. Although I'm not going to have time this time to answer each individually, let me just say...

This was not bubblegum... and it was not a gate, it really was in a cemetery, and no color treatment of any sort done on this photo, nor filter used to shoot it, for some reason someone had used pink paint on the cast iron, which I've never seen in any other cemetery anywhere. No doubt some pink champagne, as one fine person remarked, would help ease the shocking pink vision here...

So, again, a ton of thanks to each and all for dropping in here and sharing your thoughts...

"pink prayers!" i would have never thought of that :-)

but it conveys best the tenderness one feels in front of this small lady which despite her frailty managed to survive so many centuries...
ps. i totally agree with Louciao!
and Lucy with diamonds as well :-)

Owen said...

Ah, she's a survivor alright... and I suspect rather better looking for a little rust, I'm not sure the gleaming freshly painted pink would have had the same appeal...
