Why Don't We Do It In The Road !

This image is among the earliest of my efforts at photo-journalism, reporting on the world as life unfolds, taken in Fall 1982 on the Northern Arizona University campus, where I was a student for two semesters. If you click the image to see it larger, and try to count the legs on the dogs in the street, it almost looks like there are only six legs... After engaging in some strenuous extra-curricular activity between classes in the middle of the road, these two pooches were inseparably joined in an intimate way, literally glued together, and were blocking the road such that the blue car had to go around them. But what I love here is the way the white dog in the car seems to want to jump out and get a piece of the action... his owner is holding onto him to keep him from leaping into the fray... and I will never forget the way the broken muffler on that beat up old blue car sounded as he accelerated away from the scene of iniquity.

I am learning from you that you just never know when a photo opportunity will appear, so you just have to carry a camera always.

So right so right, I can't tell you how many times I've kicked myself in the backside for not having a camera in hand at a crucial moment... life unfolds so darn fast sometimes ! (see comments about "The One That Got Away" further down below...)
