Jolimeau !

While travelling in Belgium just a few short weeks ago, much to my surprise in the restaurant of a hotel near Antwerp there was a cut metal sculpture on a wall which I recognized immediately as being from Haiti. On closer examination, it was in fact signed "Serge Jolimeau". Along with Gabriel Bien-Aimé, he and Serge Jolimeau are two of the leading Haitian metal artists alive today. How do I know this ? In February 1997 I spent two weeks in Haiti, around Carnaval time, and had the chance to meet Gabriel Bien-Aimé and purchase some of his sculptures. We also ended up with a piece or two from Jolimeau which are a treasured part of the Owen Collection museum here, wherever it is, near Paris, France.
