A Curious Condemnation . . .

.
Going back to re-visit for a moment the bridge of dreams that was mentioned just a few posts down, the message in this photo was quite thought-provoking, translating as : "She who reads this sentence will be condemned to return here every year at this exact time". Could it apply to this blog too ? Whoever reads this will have to return here to these pages every day at this time ? Ok, it's too late now, sorry, you can't un-read it . . . I'll be looking forward to your return visits . . . :-)

I feel suddenly bewitched by strange forces... I am hearing the voices of Simon & Garfunkle in my head... something about troubled water...!

Well, if the view is nice, why not after all?

Owen: are you interested in coming to the Obscura day event at the Musée Fragonard next Saturday (20th)? It could be an opportunity to meet up at last!

I am looking for a way out of the condemnation that you have inflicted me with. I notice that the condemnation specifically says "She who reads this.....". I am hoping the condemnation is specifically sexist and that all male readers are not condemned to loop round like an episode from the Twilight Zone.

Great news - I love stability in my life!

Ah ha, that's a good "Gotcha". But we would be back to read your blog anyway.

Are you casting spells on your readers, Owen. Perhaps I will indeed be back this time tomorrow and the next day and so on

I don't require a condemnation either, Owen.
I come for the view, ever changing. Of my own accord.

Plus, all the garlic I eat contradicts most spells. ;)

Warm hugs and quiches from Kitty

Owen, you know I don't mind being "condemned" by this little spell. You've got such a creative mind to come up with that spin on the message, you know... ;-)

Hi ya, have read your last few posts and am leaving a comment on this one! You have been wonderful again, glad to see that you're not languishing in my absence...

Steve, if you're feeling strangely troubled over those waters, just remember, the last line in the chorus of that one is "I will ease your mind..." So rest easy friend, rest easy...

Hi Adam,
I'd love to come but I'm working Sat. 20th., so that's not going to work for me; however I'd love to find a time & place soon that does work. I think I'll probably be taking a week of vacation in mid to late April, maybe we could try then ? With pleasure...

======

Dear LGS, you are right indeed, "Celle" is "she", not "he", which would be "celui", so I guess whoever scratched this message on the bridge railing had female souls in mind... which is not necessarily sexist as you wondered, but perhaps just romantic ?
:-)

Hi Susan, well I don't know if once a year is very stable, or do you mean once a day to the blog ? Yes, it is good to have rites and rituals and habits... they help keep us sane and centered...

Owen said...

Ah TechnoB... you are too kind by far !

======

Hi FF... it was the bridge that made me do it !

======

Dear Kitty ! I was wondering where that strong garlic smell was coming from ! Actually, I love garlic, it's good for keeping the colds at bay... Well, so good of you to stop by even without a spell...

======

Hey Lynne, we actually did bring back a voodoo kit from Haiti there a few years back, will have to do a post about it... love the Brian Ferry tune, was not familiar with that...

======

Ann, I think you are flattering me... this cannot possibly be THE most enjoyable part of the day... but if it's even close to that, well then, I'm smiling !

Hi Virginia, sort of like Paris, one can't help but come back, again and again...

Hi Nevine, ah, so you don't mind if I continue to try to work a few spells of magic via these pages ???
In that case, I'd like you to read down the following letters slowly while counting out loud from ten down to zero... by the time you get to zero you will be feeling very drowsy, and you will follow the instructions that you will hear...
ok, ready, ten....

Dearest Saj,
Of course I'm languishing in your absence, it would be impossible not to do otherwise, but fortunately Lynne stopped by to cheer me up, and several other extremely kind folks dropped in too, but when you're on the road, well it's just not the same without both my sisters checking in regularly... but that's ok, I'm sure you're out whooping it up in hotel bars in the evening after rendering the country a safer place to live in... take care... and behave yourself, ok ? I know, that's a tall order...
:-)

'Celle' here is just a replacement for 'la personne' which is always feminine. There is no signification as to the sex of the individual reading the message.

Owen: Yep, I'm sure we kind find time in April. Maybe Peter will be around too!

what a curious message indeed - will you be returning to the bridge as mandated?? you may be pleased to know that I don't require any mandate to return regularly to your fine and engaging blog!! Thanks Catherine

Être appelé(e) à revenir sur ta page est une douce condamnation cher Owen ;-))

Hi Adam, yeah, I was debating about the "celle" being a gender neutral meaning or not, but was sort of thinking the message may likely have been scratched by a male hand with a specific female in mind... but whatever was meant or who was intended to be "condamnée", it was a curious moment reading this there, and thinking, there's no way I'm going to shell out air fare to la Reunion every year because of this...
:-)

======

Hi Catherine, very pleased indeed...

Owen said...

Ah Roxana, but of course you are immune, if you are wearing that clove of garlic around your neck, and carrying a silver bullet in your pocket... But even if immune, your magical presence is always welcome...

Bonjour K'line, je ne saurais pas publier d'autres condamnations que les plus douces imaginables... en tant que bourreau je serais incompétent...
