The Show Must Go On . . .

In the post just below this one a similar photo of this green bicycle was posted, with the question raised as to how the photo came to be . . . Well, it wasn't a double exposure, and the bicycle was not a reflection. The truth is no doubt grimmer than that . . . the bicycle had been heaved over the side of bridge into a canal in the city of Amiens. Hopefully the rider escaped unharmed by whatever calamity befell the bike . . .
.

And this is the canal where the bicycle was thrown in, thrown in while shouting, screaming, wait, don't do it, I can't swim ! And as it couldn't swim, it sank . . .
.

I like the two bird reflections here.

I wonder why the owner didn't fish out his bike.

Great shots both of them! I love the houses in the water. Poor bike! Thanks for the info about John's blog. I do often visit it but haven't lately...I'm on my way there now to see VW's!

Owen,
Cheers,
K'line

Two really nice photographs. I'm sure that bicycle is pleading for someone to rescue it.

The metal on the wheels and pedals looks almost golden in the water... strange alchemy is obviously at work here...

Bon sang ! Mais c'est bien sûr ! ! ! Le vélo est au fond du canal ! ! !...

Ciao amigo !
A +...

Jeff

I wonder if it's killer ever hears a clinky, squishy rolling sound as they're walking down dark alleys.

@eloh, the pigeons were a happy coincidence, adding a little life to the shot... as for the owner, I'm hoping he or she wasn't also in the water under the bridge... you'd think someone would want to fish the bike out, just need a bit of rope with a hook on the end, and up she comes...

========

Dear Chicken That Is, well, you could get in your colorful old VW and just drive right on over to Norway to track down its cousins in the woods there... ah, so you already knew about John's great photo blog ? Good stuff there for sure ...

========

Hi Priya, well, it's normal that it was gleaming like jewels in the water there, that was an ancient model belonging to the royal family, with emerald dust paint and pure gold and silver parts... the reason it was still in the canal was that the schools of evil canal piranha fish had fought off all recovery efforts . . .

=========

:-D

========

Hi Martin, yes, from under the water it was sending up green shimmering messages for help...

========

Bonjour Babzy, there will be a few other pictures from this foray into Amiens coming soon... I'd like to spend some more days walking around there...

========

Steve, certainly, strange alchemy in strange waters (Strange Waters being the title to an excellent song by Bruce Cockburn)... well, if you think there may be some gold there, you may want to hightail it over to Amiens, it's not even an hour from Calais...

=========

Desi, Wonderful, I'll be right over... took a quick peek this afternoon, but need to come back and look closer, and comment ! You are the greatest !

==========

J, I'm sure whoever tossed that bike in the drink is going to be having bad dreams about hungry gear sprockets with very sharp teeth for as long as they live... dreams which usually end with a big SPLASH !

Nice! The weird thing is that our zine is titled Buried in the Canal from a story about a person being buried in the water, but I never actually thought of all the other stuff that's in canals too.

hey thats way cool! I took heaps of 'bike' photos when I was in Amsterdam - couldn't help it, found them parked in so many ways etc

Owen said...

Hi Holly, wow, you found your way over here fast ! Well, I'm just hoping the owner of that bike isn't buried in the canal ! Glad to see people appreciating Theo's work, he's really, really gifted imho...

========

Saj, good to see you out and about... hope to see some more of your Amsterdam period photos, I remember the one you shared with us a while back there...
Cheers ! And oh boy, it's Tuesday already where you are, I think ! Getting thirsty already...

It's a shame that someone hasn't rescued the poor bike. It does make for a good picture though. I love the reflection in the bottom picture especially the bird.

Owen said...

Hi James, thanks very much... the birds were a happy coincidence... hopefully some galant soul will come along and save the bike from rack and ruin...

=======
