A Headless Angel . . .

I took this picture in a Parisian cemetery in 1993. The raised index finger and missing head seemed to be suggesting to me that someone was saying, from beyond the grave, something like, "Don't look for me here, look for me up there". I'd be curious to hear your thoughts. . .
.
This post is in tribute and an echo to to Laurie's blog Creating Pictures In My Mind, which was a busy place this weekend. If you haven't been already, I would recommend heading over there to take a peek, there are more angels, among other fascinating photos and thoughts. . .

  1. HM. Well, I reckon she (he?) was whispering and was doing the ol' "shush" thing...and whoever it was took offence and off went her head! (A common saying in France, n'est pas?)

  2. I think that whatever she was doing, she is wagging her finger and warning you not to copy! Good advice I think!

  3. If a picture makes you think and wonder about it after you've seen it then you know its excellent!

its a bit scary, i wouldn't want to be there alone!

I also wonder who would be so nasty to vandalise a little angel?

  6. Ooo this sure is spooky...and beautiful too! I think she's trying to say something but got cut off half way through a sentence.

  7. Hi also think she's saying "shhhh!" and pointing up. But at first glance, I saw her giving the peace sign.

  8. If the photo was more recent I'd say the caption could read "if I here one more news story about Dick Cheney my head will explode!"

  9. I think she was a victim of a violent crime. the dark places (since it's a black-and-white shot) could be blood, and her arm could be raised in self-defense. Her angel wings, though one has "blood" on it, remain unscathed, which shows her spirit lives on despite her corporeal demise.

... arrosoir...!

  12. To use my best Québec slang, elle est vraiment décapotée! And I don't mean décapitéé!

  15. I have seen this pose in a woman before - usually accompanied by the words: ". . . and another thing!" and a wagging finger!

She might have headed over to another cemetery or lost her head to the snapper. Great image, again!
